Module 3a .. Infinitive & Ing form

A/ Infinitive form consist of :
1-Full Infinitive :
Examples

Used after verbs
I go to the post office to post some letters .
S + Be + to + infinitive .
1-To express purpose
It is delicious  to eat  .
It was great to see you .
It + verb be + adj + to + infinitive .
2-After  It + be + adjective
At last he was free to do what he wanted .
S + verb be + adjective + to + infinitive .
3- After a certain Adjective :ready, afraid ,surprised, free, happy, sorry.
He is too tired to go jogging  today .
It isn't warm enough to go to the sea yet .
S + verb be + too + adj + to + infinitive .
S + verb be + adj + enough + to + infinitive .
5-Too
 and
 Enough

6- After a Certain verbs : afford , agree , appear , decide , forget ,hope , learn , manage , need , offer , plan , promise , refuse , seem , tend , want , would like, etc .

7-After the object of certain verbs : advise , allow , encourage , invent , order , persuade , teach , tell etc.

B / ING FORM :
Examples
Used of
Exercising is a good way of keeping fit .
1- As a noun
We often go fishing in the summer .
2-After the verb go indicating physical activities .

Muhammad suggest going to the museum .


3- After certain verbs : avoid , enjoy , finish , like , love , hate , imagine , keep , risk , spend    ( time ) , suggest , consider , etc .

It's no use trying to do everything yourself .
4- After certain expressions : be interested in , can't stand , don't mind , how about , it's worth , it's no use , it's no good , there's no point (in) be used to , etc .
I'm no excited about going to university next year .
5- After prepositions : for , about , without , etc .

Some Verbs followed by Full Infinitive & Ing Form:
Start , begin , continue , intend . (  no difference  in meaning  ) 1-
2- try , remember , forget , regret , stop . (  different in meaning  )

Ing Form
To Infinitive
Remember + ing form .
     Remember some that has  already happen .
e.g. I remember visiting Paris 2004 .              
1-Remember + full infinitive .
     Remember something before going it .
       e.g. Did you remember to lock the door before you left ?                       
Forget + ing form .
 Forget something that has already happened .
e.g. I’ll never forget visiting India .
2-Forget + full infinitive .
     Forget something you are supposed  to do .
e.g. Tome forget to tell you that he was going away for the weekend .

Present Simple

Present Progressive

FREE COMPOSITIONS :

Plants

          Plants are very important. Man and animals need plants to live. Plants give us food and shade. They make the air fresh and healthy. Plants need good soil, water and sunlight to live. Rainforests help us when we are ill. They are important for the environment. We should grow more trees and 
plants in the streets to decorate them. Green colour is so lovely. In spring the trees are very green.

Creativity
              Creativity is the ability to invent or imagine something new. Everyone is creative. We all have a lot of ideas. We should work hard to act on them. There are a lot of ways to be creative. We can evolve something that already exists.  We can also combine two different ideas to create a new one. In addition, we can find a new use for things. Concerning our problems, we should have a positive attitude to solve them. We should exercise our brain well and read a lot of books.
GUIDED  COMPOSITIONS :
Crimes

            Crimes are illegal actions . They harm our society . They cause chaos in our life. There are many reasons for crimes. Bad friends and violence films may cause crimes. There are two kinds of crimes. Old crimes are as theft , murder and fraud . New crimes are such as computer crimes ( identity theft ). Computer crimes are difficult to solve. The criminals are invisible . Nothing is physically damaged or stolen . Techno-criminals use the Internet to communicate with each other. It is safer . They  can plan crimes and pass on secret information . To stop crimes , we should raise awareness among youth . Criminals should be punished , There should be large fines . Parents should follow Islam teachings to bring up their children  .  Really, parents should teach their children to be good Muslims .

What is Reported Speech ?
Reported Speech is when you tell somebody else what you or person said before .
Kinds of Reported Speech : 4
Requests
Commands
Questions
Statements

2 forms  of Speech :
1- Direct Speech  : give exact words that someone said , use quotations marks .
Example : Thomas said , ‘Bob is on the phone’
Dan said : ‘ I’ll call you later .’
2- Reported Speech : give the meaning of  what someone said , but with some changes and without quotation marks. Example : Thomas said that Bob was on the phone .
 Dan said he would call me later .

Reported Speech ( Statements ) changes :
 1- pronoun .
2- tenses .
3- place and time expression .
Examples :
1-‘ I like your new bike’ said Ian .
Ian said that he liked my new bike .


Reported Speech ( Questions )
Introduce reported Questions with the Reporting Verbs : ( ask / wonder / and the expression want to know )
Examples :

1-If the Direct Questions  begins with a question word, the Reported Question also begins with the same question word .
‘ Why did you go to the doctors ?’he asked  .
He asked me why I had gone to the doctor .

     2-If the Direct Questions does not  begin with a question word, the Reported Question begins with
( if or whether ) .
Did you enjoy the festival ?’ he asked .
He asked me if/whether I had enjoyed the festival .


Reported Speech ( Commands and Requests )
1- Use tell , command or order when we report commands .
