Comparative & Superlative ..

Superlative of adjectives
Comparative of adjectives  
Usage :   

When we compare one person , animal , or thing with several of the same kind ..
Usage    

When we compare between  2  people , animals or things ..
Formation :
      1- the + adjective +est + of / in .
      2- the + most + adjective + of  / in .
Formation :
       1- adjective + er + than .
       2- more + adjective + than .
Examples :

1-  the + adjective +est + of / in .

 a- Sami is the oldest one in the class .  one syllable

 b- Ali is the tallest of all the students .  one syllable
Examples :

1- adjective + er + than .

a- Sami is older than Ahmad .    one syllable

b- Ali is taller  than Sami .      one syllable
Examples :

2- the + most + adjective + of  / in .

a- This watch is the most expensive of all .

b- Lion is the most dangerous one in the Forest  .

Examples :

2- more + adjective + than .

a- My watch is more expensive than yours .

b- Snake is more dangerous than Lizard  .

Kinds of Adjectives :

One-syllable Adjectives :
To form the comparative, we add -er to the end of the adjective.
To form the superlative, we add -est to the end of the adjective.

Two-syllable Adjectives ending in –Y :
To form the comparative, we remove the -y and add -ier to the end of the adjective.
To form the superlative, we remove the -y and add -iest to the end of the adjective.

Adjectives with Two or more Syllables :
For Adjectives with 2 syllables (that don't end in -y) and higher (3, 4 syllables etc), we use more for comparatives and the most for superlatives.
