Tr. Muna . The best Strategies …

Structure
Description
Content Area Suggestions/ Engagement
Rally Robin
Students partner up. Teacher poses a question. Each partner takes turns responding to the question. Teacher calls on Partner A or B randomly to give a response.
At least 50% engagement at all times.
Rally Table

Pass one worksheet between partners. Each partner takes turns writing on answer each. Partners may coach each other, if necessary.
At least 50% engagement at all times.
Stand and Share
Use this structure following a Rally Table, where you want everyone in the room to have a full list of all ideas shared.  Students draw a line beneath their last answer on a brainstormed list. Students stand up with their answer list. Teacher calls on students who share one answer at a time. If you have it on your list, CHECK IT, if you don’t have it on your list, ADD IT BELOW YOUR LINE. When all of their original items have been checked, students sit down and keep adding new items. Teacher continues to call on students who are standing until all students are sitting. When all students are sitting, everyone in the room has the same complete list of ideas.
Math boxes, before reading strategy- activating prior knowledge, brainstorming, forming a hypothesis, generating lists- state capitals, continents, oceans, etc
Numbered Heads Together
Teams number off – 1,2,3,4. Each person writes his or her answer to the question. Teams compare/change answer. Teacher calls on a number at random to “go public.”
At least 25% engagement at all times. Promotes individual accountability and interdependence.
Quiz, Quiz, Trade
Stand up, hand up, pair up. Pair up with someone and ask your vocabulary word. Your partner will then ask you their vocabulary word. Partners will coach each other if necessary. After each person has answered, give each other a high five and exchange cards. Stand up, Hand up, Pair Up, find a new partner. Continue until timer goes off.
At least 50% engagement at all times
Think-Pair-Share
Listen to the question. Think of a response without raising hands. Pair up with a partner to discuss responses. Teacher calls on the A or B partner randomly to share their response with the whole class. Teacher may limit the discussions to a certain amount of time.
Students are able to rehearse mentally and verbally and all students have the opportunity to talk. At least 50% engagement at all times.
Round Table
Students sit in teams of 3 or more, with one piece of paper and one pencil. Teacher asks a question which has multiple answers. Students take turns writing one answer on the paper, then passing the paper and pencil clockwise to the next person. When time is called, teams with the most correct answers are recognized. Teams reflect on their strategies and consider ways they could improve.
A team builder activity that can be used for brainstorming, reviewing, practicing content.
Send a Problem
Each student on a team writes a review problem on a flash card. Teams reach a consensus on answers and write them on the backs of the cards. Each group’s stack of questions passes to another group, which attempts to answer them and checks to see if they agree with the sending group. If not, they write their answer as an alternative. Stacks of cards can be sent to a third and fourth group. Stacks of cards are finally returned to the senders, who may discuss the alternative answers.
Review problems, flash cards
