                                                  Telling and writing a story                                          

          Writing a story is an ancient art. It requires many skills. A story writer must have inventive imagination. He should have a sense of sympathy. He needs to feel what the characters are experiencing. He should be organized and have plenty of patience to revise more than one time .

Telling a story aloud requires some skills. People began to tell stories long time ago. A good storyteller should be an actor with a good memory. He should have varied voice. He needs to know when he speaks loudly and when he whispers. He should have expressive face

that can capture different moods and feelings. He needs to use his face and body to bring the story alive.

         Communication is very important. It helps us to share ideas. Babies communicate by imitating. Communication in the past was different. In the past people communicated orally. Today communication is easy. We use the TV, internet and the mobile. We send messages by mobile. New technology is very exciting. We can watch the news on TV. We can chat.

          Science helps us a lot. Scientists invent many useful things. They make our life easier. Scientists do experiments in the lab. Edison invented the cinema. He improved the light bulb. A.G Bell invented the telephone. Lee invented the WWW. Scientists are great people. I'd like to be a scientist.  Science is our way to the future.

What is Reported Speech ?

Reported Speech is when you tell somebody else what you or person said before .

Kinds of Reported Speech : 4
Requests	Commands	Questions	Statements

2 forms  of Speech :

1- Direct Speech  : give exact words that someone said , use quotations marks .

Example : Thomas said , ‘Bob is on the phone’

Dan said : ‘ I’ll call you later .’

2- Reported Speech : give the meaning of  what someone said , but with some changes and without quotation marks. Example : Thomas said that Bob was on the phone .

 Dan said he would call me later .

Reported Speech ( Statements ) changes :

 1- pronoun .

2- tenses .

3- place and time expression .

Examples :

1-‘ I like your new bike’ said Ian .

Ian said that he liked my new bike .

Questions )       Reported Speech (

Introduce reported Questions with the Reporting Verbs : ( ask / wonder / and the expression want to know )

Examples :

1-If the Direct Questions  begins with a question word, the Reported Question also begins with the same question word .

‘ Why did you go to the doctors ?’he asked  .

He asked me why I had gone to the doctor .

     2-If the Direct Questions does not  begin with a question word, the Reported Question begins with

( if or whether ) .

Did you enjoy the festival ?’ he asked . ‘

He asked me if/whether I had enjoyed the festival .

2- Use ask or beg when we report requests .
